Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

Today, 20th March, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme where the government will pay a significant proportion of wages in an effort to minimise job losses. Under the scheme. Employers can apply for grants to cover wages, with up to 80% of wages being paid by the government, up to a maximum of £2,500 per month

In addition, all Pubs, Cafes, and Restaurants must close. While all local businesses are adversely affected by the current general situation, that directive is a particularly hard blow to a number of our local businesses in the Town and surrounding area.

The Chancellor’s statement from 20th March can be found at GOV.UK.
